Narrowing the Gap in 06 – 08.

  • Internet use among Latino adults rose by 10 percentage points, from 54% to 64%.  In comparison, the rates for whites rose four percentage points, and the rates for blacks rose only two percentage points during that time period.
  • In 2006, 79% of Latinos who were online had internet access at home, while in 2008, this number was 81%.
  • In 2006, 84% of African American internet users had a home connection, compared with 87% in 2008.
  • In 2006, 63% of Hispanics with home internet access had a broadband connection; in 2008 this number was 76%.  For whites, there was a 17 percentage point increase in broadband connection from 65% to 82%, and for blacks, the increase was from 63% in 2006 to 78% in 2008.

Online Viewing Up 13% in December.

The Nielsen Company today reported overall online video usage and top online brands ranked by video streams for December 2009. Year-over-year, unique viewers, total streams, streams per viewer and time per viewer were up, led by 13 percent growths in time per viewer.

Savvy marketers have realized that for the same price they once paid for a glossy ad or 30-second TV spot, they can now own their fully branded publication, video series, or interactive online platform.

Moreover, they’re providing the same high-quality and engaging content found in those third-party publications and broadcast outlets, offering it to mainstream audiences for free and, in essence, competing with those very outlets that used to serve their advertising needs.

U.S. Videos Viewed Online Surpass 30 Billion

comScore, Inc. today released November 2009 data from the comScore Video Metrix service, showing that more than 170 million U.S. Internet users watched online video during the month. Online video viewing continued to reach record levels in November with nearly 31 billion videos viewed during the month, and Google Sites accounting for 39 percent of all videos viewed online in the U.S.
